A double-glazed unit — technically known as an Insulated Glass Unit, or IGU — is made from two panes of glass separated by a sealed spacer and an insulating cavity. The cavity contains air, or optionally an inert gas such as argon, depending on the specification.
Continuous edge seals protect the cavity from moisture ingress. The IGU is then installed into a steel-reinforced uPVC frame, which contributes its own thermal insulation to the completed window or door.
Performance is a whole-system property — the glass configuration, spacer type, gas fill, frame profile and installation quality all matter. Comparing a glass-unit rating with a whole-window rating is not a like-for-like comparison.

The insulated glass units used in our double-glazed windows and doors are supplied by Tough Glass, a Perth-based glass manufacturer that fabricates its ToughEco IGU range locally. That means the DGU in every Hybrid window is manufactured in Western Australia — no interstate shipping, no long lead times on standard configurations.
Depending on the selected project specification, the sealed cavity may contain air or argon; the spacer may be a warm-edge thermoplastic, a Super Spacer or aluminium; and the glass configuration itself may combine clear, toughened, laminated, acoustic and Low-E performance glass in the panes you need.
Hybrid Windows remains responsible for the consultation, measure, frame fabrication, complete window manufacture, installation and aftercare — Tough Glass supplies the DGU component itself.

Laminated or toughened glass configurations can be specified for openings where safety or forced-entry resistance matters.
uPVC frames themselves are also resistant to corrosion and coastal salt exposure, which matters for Western Suburbs and Peel-region homes.
